Creativity, Connection and Community: Madeleine Griffith featured on Embracing the Mind

27 May 2026

Satellite Foundation’s Creative Director Madeleine Griffith recently joined the Embracing the Mind podcast to discuss the role creativity can play in building connection, supporting wellbeing and creating opportunities for young people navigating family mental health challenges.

Hosted by Dr Karen Lombardi and Jack Boronovskis, the episode explores Madeleine’s own creative journey, from prop-making and illustration to her daily drawing practice, while also highlighting Satellite’s unique approach to supporting children and young people through creativity and lived experience.

Throughout the conversation, Mads shares how creativity can become a language for self-expression, connection and belonging.

“Stay connected. Be creative. Keep well.”

This familiar Satellite message was woven throughout the discussion, reflecting the belief that creativity is not simply an activity, but a powerful way to build relationships, explore experiences and strengthen wellbeing.

Madeleine spoke about Satellite’s creative and non-clinical approach, where children and young people aged 8 to 25 are supported to connect with others navigating family mental health challenges through programs, workshops, camps and co-created opportunities.

The episode also highlights:

  • how creativity can support wellbeing and connection
  • the importance of creating safe and inclusive spaces
  • Satellite’s work with young carers and lived experience leadership
  • reaching children and young people in regional and remote communities
  • empowering young people to shape programs, advocacy and future pathways

Madeleine also shared a simple creative practice from her own family life: taking time each day to pause and draw a small moment from the day, whether it’s something meaningful, memorable or simply “a nice piece of watermelon”.

At Satellite, we know creativity looks different for everyone. It might be drawing, music, movement, photography, storytelling, sewing, writing or something entirely your own.

As Madeleine shared in this episode, everybody has a story to tell and sometimes we just need the opportunity, support and space to let it out.
