Hong Kong’s JC LevelMind@School Youth Advisory Committee Visits Satellite
Satellite recently welcomed members of the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) from JC LevelMind@School, a youth-focused mental health initiative in Hong Kong co-organised by Mind HK, a mental health non-governmental organisation. The visit provided an opportunity to share learning around creativity, youth support, and approaches to improving outcomes for children and young people.
About JC LevelMind@School
JC LevelMind@School is a youth-focused initiative based in Hong Kong dedicated to promoting mental health and well-being. Co-organised by Mind HK and partners, the project supports young people through mental health education, peer support, and youth-led advocacy.Their visit to Satellite reflected a shared commitment to supporting children and young people through creativity and connection.
Building real connections
During their visit, Satellite’s Projects Lead, Leanne, gave the group a tour of our office and introduced them to the team. Afterwards, the session continued with a lively joint workshop that brought together both Youth Advisory Committees.

Through activities such as Human Bingo and a “draw a horse with your eyes closed” challenge to celebrate Lunar New Year, the young people had the chance to connect, laugh, and get to know one another better. These playful moments created a genuine sense of shared creativity and cultural exchange.

Ren, one of our YAC members, shared some words about her experience:
“It was so interesting getting to learn about the mental health advocacy done by these young people in Hong Kong! We learnt so much from each other and I hope we can work together in the future. “
Aishah, another Satellite YAC member, also shared her experience:
“It was fascinating learning about another YAC in Hong Kong and their continuing efforts to improve the mental health of those in society. Especially with starting an open dialogue on mental health.”
Following this, some of Satellite’s YAC had the opportunity to showcase their work at Satellite. In true Satellite style, they led an interactive activity for the group. JC LevelMind@School’s YAC then took their turn, presenting their work and sharing their experiences of supporting youth mental health and wellbeing in Hong Kong.

It was truly powerful see both groups sharing their creative approaches to improving wellbeing. Initiatives like these are deeply inspiring, reminding us how much we can learn when young people are given space to amplify their voices.
Leanne also reflected on the experience of bringing both groups together:
“It was invigorating listening to so many young people speak about the importance of breaking mental health stigma. Both YACs showcased their work with great pride and it is a reminder of how capable young people are”
Zine workshop
After lunch, the JC LevelMind@School YAC experienced one of our most loved workshops: our Zine Workshop, hosted by Satellite’s Creative Direction Lead, Madeleine, and our Lead Facilitator, Hannah.
For two hours, the group immersed themselves in creativity, making their own zines and exploring self-expression through art and craft. YAC members were particularly inspired by the Zine workshop. Several participants shared that they learned the vital importance of embracing imperfection—a lesson that resonates deeply, as perfectionism is a prevalent challenge in Hong Kong culture. They also found the session to be remarkably relaxing and grounding.

Thank you to the JC LevelMind@School Youth Advisory Committee and team for being such fantastic visitors. We hope these shared ideas continue to grow at the upcoming JC LevelMind Fest, and we look forward to staying connected in the future.
