Reaching Regional Families, Thanks to You

Living in a regional area, access to mental health support and peer connection can be limited – especially for young people. For one family, Satellite Foundation became a vital bridge to connection, understanding, and growth.

They first discovered Satellite at a local Christmas party, where the booth and friendly staff caught their attention. Soon after, Satellite reached out and made sure distance wasn’t a barrier. “They posted activity supplies to us,” the parent shared. “My kids really enjoyed receiving mail addressed to them.”

The family had been through immense loss, having lost their eldest son to suicide. The children, both on the autism spectrum, struggled to express their emotions and relate to others. “Our family was becoming more isolated,” their parent said. “My kids didn’t have the language to describe what they were going through.”

Satellite’s programs – both online and in-person – helped the children build confidence, connect with peers from similar backgrounds, and develop a deeper understanding of mental health. “Now they’ll talk to me about how they’re feeling. They’ve even asked me for advice when trying to help a friend with their own mental health challenges.”

Thanks to your support, this regional family found the power in talking openly with each other about the things that matter. “Satellite has helped us overcome communication barriers and has given us a shared language,” their parent said. “We’ve come together more as family.”
