Rose Cuff Featured as Pro Bono Australia’s Changemaker of the Week
9 July 2025
We’re incredibly proud to share that our CEO and co-founder, Rose Cuff, has been named this week’s Changemaker by Pro Bono Australia.
Rose has spent more than three decades working alongside children and young people whose parent or family member experiences mental health challenges. From launching Victoria’s first peer support programs for young carers, to co-founding Satellite Foundation in 2009, Rose has remained deeply committed to ensuring these young people feel seen, heard, and supported.
In the wide-ranging interview, Rose reflects on her professional journey — from her early work in mental health settings in the UK and Australia, to becoming a national advocate for young carers and families. She speaks openly about the challenges of securing sustainable funding in a competitive and often under-resourced sector, and the impact this can have on the very communities we aim to support.
One message comes through clearly: the power of listening. It’s a simple, foundational principle that has shaped Rose’s leadership — and Satellite’s work — for decades.
“Listen. Listen again. And keep listening,” she says. “True understanding and meaningful change come from deeply listening to others — whether it’s the lived experiences of families, the insights of colleagues, or the perspectives of young people.”
Rose also shares what helps her unwind after long days: a bike ride, cooking risotto, a warm bath — and curling up with a good book.
We’re so grateful to have Rose’s vision, care and leadership guiding our team. Her dedication continues to shape a future where young people are supported not in spite of their experiences, but because they are valued for who they are — and the strength they bring.
