Submit Your Artwork to Our Satellite Zine Project, “All the Coloured Glasses”
Enter your creative work reflecting on mental health to be published in our Zine.
Got a story, an idea, or a piece of art that speaks to you? We want to see it in our latest creative project, All the Coloured Glasses—a zine all about showcasing the funny and the sad, the happy and the mad when navigating the complex world of mental health.
Whether it’s writing, poetry, drawing, photography, or multimedia magic, we’re looking for submissions that capture the highs, the lows, and the wild mix of emotions that comes with the territory that is mental health. This Zine is a celebration of different voices and perspectives on the topic.
Why a zine?
Zines are a radical form of self-publishing used to share political and social ideas and as an advocacy tool. They are a powerful, accessible art form that shares ideas that don’t always get heard. We believe that by looking, listening, and learning from people with lived and living experiences of mental health challenges, we challenge the discomfort of stigma, help people discover more empathy and understanding, and be part of a changing dialogue of awareness and advocacy.
Artwork Specifications:
- Any printable artwork is welcome—just make sure it’s at least 300 dpi (we can help with this if you need a hand).
- Written work should be short and sweet (100-200 words) as it needs to fit into a small zine. Each page is approximately 10.5cm x 14.5 cm—just a little smaller than the size of a postcard.
Why you should get involved:
By sharing your art, your words, and your story, you’ll be part of a community that’s shaping the conversation around mental health. Your work will be included in our zine, put into our Zine Vending Machines, and shared across Australia and the world. Yep, your creativity could be seen by thousands! You might even get the chance to see your work turned into badges and become part of our ongoing collection of resources to help others have brave conversations around mental health.
At Satellite, we are all about pushing boundaries while creating safe spaces for storytelling. But we also take our responsibility as a child-safe organisation seriously. So, while we are open to all kinds of creative expressions, we reserve the right to select and edit submissions accordingly. Don’t worry though, we will always keep you in the loop and have an open dialogue with contributors if a submission is not selected for publication or offer opportunities for finding alternative solutions.
Submit your work and help us challenge stigma, build community, and encourage brave conversations around the complex world of mental health. We can’t wait to see what you create! Ready to submit your artwork? Please proceed with the form below:
