Create & Connect: Junkyard Jungle
‘Junkyard Jungle’ is all about getting creative with recycled materials, drawing, storytelling and sculpture. Join us for this creative workshop in Dandenong!
Satellite Connect Youth is for young people ages 14- 17 and covers topic areas aligned with Satellite Connect but with a greater focus on the experience of sharing participant’s stories, being heard and facilitating peer connection and wellbeing.
The program may be offered online, or in person. It includes activities like photography, music, street art and meme-making, with space to strengthen personal development skills and nurture friendships.
Participants have a Zoom ‘meet and greet’ followed by meetings once a week for six weeks via Zoom or in person workshop, covering the following topic areas.
Introduction and connection with facilitators and peers.
An understanding of (and practical tools for) self-care and compassion.
Exploring alternative communication methods for connection.
The way in which shared stories can illuminate, connect and empower.
Exploring experiences of mental health, mental illness, language and stigma.
Next steps for participants to learn, grow and practice their new skills.
There is an extensive range of resources included to support these learnings.
