It’s happening thanks to you…
“I’ve met beautiful friends and stuff, and those relationships have formed on the basis of having [the] same experiences. And that happened because of the unique thing that Satellite does.” – Young Participant
When I hear this from a young person, I’m encouraged, and I hope you are too. I know what we are doing together is having a real impact on young Australians facing incredibly challenging situations right here in our neighbourhoods.
As we are the only organisation in Victoria that offers specific support for young people living with family mental health challenges – your support is critical.
I’m excited to share with you some of the ways YOU have helped to make this happen through your generosity.
Thank you.
Go gently,
Rose Cuff, AM (she/her)

You’re supporting young carers get the best out of their education
For a young carer, school can be a challenge when you’re already carrying a lot of responsibility at home. This often looks like missing days at school and increased social isolation – impacting confidence, self-esteem and social skills.
There is estimated to be at least one young carer, or as many as three, in every classroom*.
Thanks to your support, Satellite provides young carers with much-needed support and helps foster meaningful connections through online and face-to-face programs.
“I noticed a huge difference in his confidence with contact with Satellite. It’s been the beginning of him feeling much better about himself.” – Mother of young carer
When young carers get to meet others in similar situations to them, it normalises what they are facing. It also provides an avenue for support and sharing brave conversations around mental health. It can make a world of difference for a young carer.
“This year he’s tackled school, he has barely missed any days. Last year, it was a struggle for me to get him to school. He wasn’t confident in himself….And part of him building that confidence I think was connecting with the kids online with Satellite” – Mother of young carer
This is all possible thanks to the kindness and generosity of people like you.
Here’s what young carers are saying…
“I think it’s very fun, and I can’t wait for the next time.”
– Young carer
“Until I came to Satellite (recently), I didn’t know that I would count in this space. With Satellite here, a gap is filled.”
– Young carer
“It doesn’t matter your background, they’ll welcome you either way. It’s a lot like a home away from home sort of vibe… it’s a safe space to talk about your home life and how you’re feeling”.
– Declan, Young carer, 13 years old
“I genuinely don’t know what I would have done without Satellite!”
– Young carer
The kindness you show through your ongoing support is helping make real and measurable change – like this – in the lives of children and young people. Thank you.
Approximately, 9,000 young people in Victoria are caring for an adult with mental illness*.
Your donation today will help children and young people impacted by family mental health challenges find the connection and support they need to thrive.
Yes! I’d like to give a gift to help more children and young people.
