Finding My Voice: Arthur’s Story

“Before Satellite, I was quiet and closed off. I hadn’t met anyone who understood what it was like to be a carer.”Arthur

Arthur’s journey began with a chance encounter on a train – a conversation that led him to Satellite Foundation.

For years Arthur had been caring for his mum and his auntie, managing everything from shopping and cooking to medication – all while juggling school.

When Arthur joined Satellite’s Connect program during COVID, he was hoping for a distraction. What he found was life-changing.

Through weekly sessions and then a camp, Arthur connected with others who shared similar experiences of being a young person impacted by family mental health challenges. He began to open up, discovering that sharing his story helped others feel safe to do the same.

“I realised it’s okay to talk about what you’re going through. That shift didn’t happen overnight, but it changed me.”

Arthur returned for a second round of Connect, naturally stepping into a leadership role. His courage to speak first inspired others to share. Over two years, he stayed involved, joined more programs, and began training as a youth worker. Today, he’s working towards a Certificate in Community Services.

“Satellite helped me understand that asking for help isn’t selfish — it’s necessary.”

Support from people like you helped Arthur find his voice — and now he’s using it to lift up others.

Together, we’re bringing once-hidden voices into the light, sparking conversations and inspiring change across Victoria.
