An interview with Elfy Scott: “The One Thing We’ve Never Spoken About”
Award-winning journalist Elfy Scott chats to us about her debut book.
Satellite Foundation is thrilled to announce that we have received a worldwide 2024 Kindness in Community Fund Grant from Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation.
Partnering with Cotton On Foundation and supporting 65 organisations in 10 countries, this grant will allow us to continue and grow our support for youth mental health and wellbeing in the community. The $70,000 grant will expand Satellite’s youth-created Zine project, “All the Coloured Glasses.” This ongoing, collaborative, creative project amplifies young people’s voices, stories, art and creativity.
The Zine showcases the positive impact of creative expression and builds connections while amplifying and sharing the voices of young people and their lived experiences of mental health challenges.
Young people led the Kindness in Community Fund, from nominations to final selections, choosing recipients committed to youth mental wellness, community inclusion, and free, accessible resources.

“I had my first work published when I was 9 years old…then mental health meant I was barely passing English for most of high school…to then being able to have this published and on display at the NGV…it’s a full circle moment that I’m so honoured to be a part of – ahh!!”

“Before this project I never shared my work with anyone but now I am a published author and have started my own zine project sharing my stories.”

“Satellite is extremely excited and grateful to be receiving the Kindness in Community Fund grant. This funding will allow us to amplify the positive impact of creative expression for mental health and well-being to the public and those within young people’s lives. The Kindness in Community Fund will be an invaluable resource for Satellite as it will allow us to work in a phased manner where we can learn from experiments and feedback, iterate, and improve this amazing initiative.
Our Zine Machine, which was recently launched at the 10th annual Melbourne Art Book Fair – a state-wide celebration of art book publishing presented by the National Gallery of Victoria, will also be part of our scale-up effort. Our dream is to install these vending machines that dispense individual zines, badges, and mini zines in public locations to provide a fun, interactive way to connect with the community, share young people’s creativity, and encourage brave conversations around mental health.”

Satellite Foundation is a not-for-profit that connects and empowers children and young people aged 8-25+ who have family mental health challenges. This may also include those in families experiencing challenges with substance use, family conflict or violence, complex trauma, or other adverse life circumstances. We work together with young people to support their individual, ongoing growth and transformation journey.
