YAC Co-Creations: For young people, by young carers

Satellite’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is proud to launch two new resources, which aim to literally Amplify the voices of and Advocate for young people with caring responsibilities.
The idea for these resources began in 2023, when the YAC was first established. After a short hiatus, the projects recommenced in late 2025. Over the course of 10 months, working groups from the YAC have co-created a podcast special and interactive zine. These are both aimed at young people aged 16 years and older, as this was considered an important time in which many young people were exploring their identities, seeking belonging, and establishing independence (if not already).
Working group members hope to convey the following messages through these resources:
- You might be a young carer!
- Filling your own cup is just as important as filling other’s cups
- There’s always rain before a rainbow
- There are others like you
- Understanding yourself can help you understand others
These resources are the result of concerted efforts from YAC members over the years, as well as supporting Satellite staff. These projects have provided avenues for YAC members to meaningfully contribute their skills and perspectives, whilst also learning and developing along the way.
Both the podcast special and zine are the first completed outputs from the YAC working groups, and with the onboarding of new YAC members, we expect several more in the coming year.
